What to Bring
Photos of the space from a couple of angles, rough measurements, and a note about how much sun the spot gets through the day. That is genuinely all we need to give you a useful answer.
A tarp and tie-downs if you are hauling mulch or rock.
Before You Buy: The Five-Minute Checklist
Run through this before you come in and you will leave with plants that live. Skip it and you will be back next spring buying the same thing twice.
| Question | Why It Decides Everything |
|---|---|
| How much sun does the spot get? | Count the hours of direct sun. Six or more is full sun, three to six is part shade, under three is shade. This single answer eliminates about eighty percent of the wrong choices. |
| How big can it get? | Measure the width you actually have, and look up. Power lines, eaves, and the neighbor’s fence line all matter. The tag size is the size it wants to be, not the size it will stay. |
| Where does the water go? | If water stands in that spot after a hard rain, most plants will drown there. Fix the drainage first or pick something that tolerates wet feet. |
| What is the soil like? | Most of Central Kansas is heavy clay. It holds water in spring and sets up like concrete in July. Almost everything benefits from compost worked in before planting. |
| Who is watering it? | New plantings need consistent water through the first full year. If nobody is going to drag a hose out there, you need drip irrigation or a drought-tolerant plant list. |
| What is the budget? | Tell us the real number. We would rather build you something good within it than sell you half a plan you cannot finish. |
What to Plant, When
A rough planting calendar for our part of Kansas. Local conditions vary and every year is a little different, so treat this as a starting point and ask us what the season is actually doing.

Trees, shrubs, and perennials. Cool-season vegetables and pansies. Bare-root and balled-and-burlapped stock. Prune before bud break. Pre-emergent goes down now. |
| Late Spring May – early June |
Warm-season vegetables after the frost risk passes. Annual color, hanging baskets, and container plantings. Sod and new bed installs. Get irrigation running. |
| Summer June – August |
Container work and hardscaping. Planting is possible but demands serious watering. Deadhead, mulch to hold moisture, and monitor irrigation weekly. |
| Fall September – November |
The best planting window of the year. Trees, shrubs, and perennials establish roots all winter. Mums and ornamental kale. Bulbs. Divide crowded perennials. Winterize irrigation before the first hard freeze. |
| Winter December – February |
Design and planning season. Dormant pruning. Permanent and holiday lighting. Book spring installs now — the calendar fills before the ground thaws. |
Landscape Design & Consultation
If the project is bigger than a few plants, start with a consultation. Here is exactly how it goes.

| 1. Talk | Call, email, or stop in. Tell us the site, the problem, and roughly what you want to spend. Fifteen minutes on the phone saves everybody a wasted trip. |
| 2. Site Visit | We come out, walk the property, take measurements, and check sun, grade, drainage, and utilities. We will tell you then and there if something you are picturing will not work. |
| 3. Design | You get a plan with a plant list, materials, and layout — sized to your budget, using plants we can actually get. |
| 4. Written Quote | Material and labor broken out, with a realistic schedule. Phased options if you want to spread it across seasons. |
| 5. Install | Our crew does the work. Same company that sold you the plants, so there is nobody to blame but us if something goes sideways. |
Events at the Nursery
We host sales, seasonal open houses, and family events through the year at 712 N Grand Ave. Follow us on Facebook for dates as they are announced — that is where we post first.
Fall Tree Sale — 25% Off
Every tree on the lot, 25% off. Fall is the right time to plant one, and this is the right price to do it at. Installation available if you would rather we handled the digging.
The Barrel Train
Our barrel train runs at the nursery during events and open houses — a favorite with the kids while the adults shop. It is also available to rent for birthdays, church events, and community days.
Seasonal Sales & Open Houses
Spring opening weekend, end-of-summer clearance, fall planting days, and holiday lighting. Dates are announced a couple of weeks out on Facebook and in the store.
